Herriman Saturday

Back in the saddle here at Stripper's Guide.

This week's Herriman offerings are from November 2 (the first two) and 3, 1906. The third cartoon is a particularly impressive example of Herriman honing his craft. What a beautiful job of portraying his villains behind the curtain, all conveyed through some very deft crosshatching.

Unfortunately all three cartoons were in bad shape on the microfilm, especially annoying with that masterful one of the 3rd. I had to do a lot of renovating on the images just to get them even halfway presentable. Pretty typical of microfilm, though, that the first few days of a month are in bad shape. Reason being that the original bound volumes, which are typically bound in monthly books, usually have the most wear on the first few issues. These issues are the most likely to have rips and tears, stains, discolorations and yellowing since they were handled much more often than the pages further in.

Boo!

Still under the weather here are Stripper Central, but couldn't let Halloween pass without a post that's been waiting in the wings for some time. Cole Johnson sent me this nightmare-inducing photo of a trio of axe-murderers ... er ... cute comic strip characters:

The promotional photo was taken when the Boston Herald succeeded in stealing three strips (BC, Dennis the Menace and Andy Capp obviously) from the Boston Globe.

I find the Dennis character particularly disturbing. The demon-spawn of Chucky and Freddy Krueger?

Comments:
Yowza! That is one creepy Dennis costume! (Tho BC and Andy look pretty good) I think Dennis ranks right up there with the original Flintstones Theme Park costumes and the Archie character costumes as one of the most disturbing looking comic strip cosplays ever.

Hope you're feeling better.

Laughter May Not Be Best Medicine

Been laid low by some sort of stomach virus since Friday. Managed the Saturday post but otherwise too weak to do SG posts. Back once this damn thing subsides.

Comments:
I wish to recover from your disease soon ... and not only in order that you could continue with the posts!!!

Saludos from Spain
